Maintenance Worker

The incumbent serves as the Maintenance Worker and is required to be a certified Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) and purchase cardholder. The incumbent will be assigned as the COR to oversee the total operations contract at LRNC. This will require the incumbent to work in conjunction with the Contracting Officer, Director, Foreman, Program Support Assistant and Cemetery Representative to ensure all standards and measures are met. When necessary, the incumbent shall serve as a backup to the Foreman, Engineering Equipment Operator, Automotive Worker or Gardener. The purpose being to ensure mission accomplishment if these personnel are absent. The incumbent will place orders for parts and services using government purchase cards and will use cemetery vehicles to obtain parts as needed. They will prepare and input orders using the Centralized Administrative Accounting Transactions System (CAATS) for equipment or supplies, as well as the turn-in of excess equipment or supplies. They will maintain a log of delinquent purchase orders and follows-up with vendors to ensure prompt deliveries. They shall have a firm grasp of computing programs to include Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word that will be used to track, record and communicate data. They will also have the knowledge and skills necessary to adequately research topics, materials and parts utilizing internet search engines. They plan daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal, preventative maintenance schedules to accomplish all repair and maintenance tasks assigned by the Foreman. Work schedule:
May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Your background must demonstrate work involved in the full range of building and maintenance trades to include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, pest control, asphalt repairs, etc. This includes repair and preventive maintenance of irrigation systems, maintaining and repairing buildings and physical structures, facilities, and utilities using hand and power tools.
Experience:
A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Physical Requirements:
This position requires prolonged and frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping and pulling. Climbs ladders and lifts objects weighing over fifty (50) pounds. Must utilize the full range of upper and lower extremities to accomplish tasks safely and efficiently. Moderate effort required in operating vehicles and tools of the trade. Stamina, dexterity, and perseverance required in all aspects of incumbent's duties. Working Conditions:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Incumbent is subject to discomfort when working in unnatural positions for longer periods in all types of weather. Must work under stress and strain in dust, dirt, mud and water. Incumbent may be exposed to occupational injuries, such as cuts, scrapes, bruises, shock and dust from sawing materials, as well as other potential hazards working with machinery, saws, and electrical test equipment while performing duties in this position. Incumbent may be exposed to noise levels exceeding 85 dBA for up to eight (8) hours per day. This exposure may adversely affect hearing. The wearing of protective hearing devices that contain the noise level to 85 dBA or below is mandatory while operating equipment louder than 85 dBA. While wearing protective devices, the worker must be able to hear at a level to safely perform their duties. It is mandatory to participate in the cemetery safety and hearing program. Incumbent is responsible for the compliance to safety regulations and must make decisions when safety, quality and adequacy of work demand. All safety procedures must be observed and practiced. Duties will be performed in a manner that is safe to incumbent, coworkers and visitors. All safety gear that is provided, to include hardhats, face masks, ear plugs, gloves, disposable overalls, eye goggles, safety glasses, respirators, lift-belts, etc., will be worn as prescribed by OSHA, VA, NCA, CND, FSNC and LRNC policies. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
