Gerdau is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer for its Fort Smith, AR facility.

Responsibilities:

Assists the engineering, production and maintenance departments in development of projects to better utilize equipment and space for a more efficient and productive facility.
Develops plans and drawings, cost comparison estimates, project scopes and equipment lists consistent with directives and objectives of plan management, as directed.
Coordinates construction activities to complete project within required time, specifications and budget guidelines.
Ensures compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local safety and environmental regulations by keeping abreast of changing laws.
Implements and assigns project in a timely and cost effective manner and follows-up to ensure satisfaction.
Directs the work of drafting personnel on assigned projects.
Coordinates and directs personnel and outside contractors to efficiently schedule equipment and manpower usage.
On specific projects, will be accountable for specifications of material and equipment, requisitioning and monitors received material.


Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Required (Recent college graduates welcome to apply with internship experience relating to this position).
1-5 years' experience working in a heavy industrial/manufacturing/construction environment
Steel mill experience - preferred, but not required
Leadership skills - ability to manage construction vendors and contractors
Strong interpersonal skills with primary work force, contractors and engineering leadership team.
Ability to manage projects and project paperwork.
Project management on Industrial Construction Projects is a plus.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office including Microsoft Project.
Auto CAD experience preferred
Working conditions warrant extreme temperatures. Incumbent must have ability to successfully work in this type of environment.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work with diverse populations and communication styles.
Strong organizational skills are key in this position. Must have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and multi-task to be successful.
Ability to independently make accurate decisions and demonstrate good judgment.
