Must have an Associates degree, 60 college hours or have passed the ParaPro test.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Ability to work with children ages 3-5 years.
Ability to be physically active all day with children in doors and outdoors.
Assist the teacher with classroom instructional tasks as assigned, including reading and listening to students and reviewing their work.
Work with students individually and in small groups to assist with the learning of content and skills introduced by the Preschool staff.
Observe student behavior and learning, communicating observations regularly with the Preschool teacher.
Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and policies.
To maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, District policy and administrative regulations.
Maintain acceptable attendance and be punctual.
Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students and parents.
Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing goals, objectives and methods.
Assist the preschool staff with clerical work, record keeping and preparation of instructional materials, set up of Preschool centers, preparation of displays and bulletin boards and other non instructional tasks as assigned.
Assist the Preschool staff and students with cleanup from activities.
Assist students with the use of specialized equipment.
Assist the Preschool staff with supervision of students.
Assist the Preschool staff in communicating with parents.
Maintain the orderly arrangement of materials and equipment within the classroom.
Assist children with preparing for and moving to other classrooms, school activities, outside activities and arrival and departure from school.
Help young children with clothing, grooming, health habits and bathroom activities.
Communicate to the teacher any unusual situations or needs of students.
Notify immediately appropriate personnel of any evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical conditions, potential suicide, or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, or controlled substances.
Assist the Preschool staff in handling interruptions and emergencies.
Maintain a safe working condition and safely operate electronic and other equipment needed to carry out job functions and responsibilities.
Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend required meetings.
Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and effective work ethic.
Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school Some travel required to other school locations and to family homes.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS Maintain emotional control under stress.
Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending and squatting.
